ANDOVER – George W. “Bud” Chase, of SaddleBrooke, Ariz., passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2025, at Banner Health – Tucson Medical Center after battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis over the past year. His childhood nickname was “Buddy”, but he was later known to many as “Bud.” He was born April 29, 1943, in Rumford, Maine and grew up in the town of Andover, Maine.

He attended local schools and had many hobbies and interests, including hunting, fishing, and stock car races. After high school, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for five years. After military service, he worked at State Street Bank in Boston, was a constable and selectman for the Town of Andover and was an automobile sales associate for many years. Bud concluded his working career as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service.

Later in life, Bud met Patricia “Patsy” Ulma of Winslow, Maine. After a trip to Arizona to visit one of her sons, they returned to Maine, packed up all of their belongings, and headed west to Tucson, Ariz. After being married in 1989 in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, they made SaddleBrooke, Ariz. their home, attending clubhouse events and spending plenty of time by the pool to cool off in the desert sun. For many years, he and Patsy also escaped the heat during the summer by spending several weeks near Keystone, Colo.

They had hundreds of friends and had many activities to keep them busy. They traveled to dozens of places in the United States and around the world, with trips on a Honda touring motorcycle across the country and cruises to places like Scandinavia and the Panama Canal. Bud’s second love was riding a bicycle, and he was a charter member of the SaddleBrooke Cyclemasters bicycle club. He rode thousands of miles every year, and cycled in Arizona, Utah, California, Colorado, and Idaho.

Bud is survived by his two sisters, Madeline Wells and Jean Gammon, both of Andover, ; two sons, Robert Chase of Andover, and Brian Chase (and partner Julie Saccardo) of Rumford,; two stepsons, Jeff Ulma (Paula Siviski-Ulma) of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Todd Ulma (Cheryl Ulma) of Grangeville, Idaho; grandchildren Lauryn, Bryan, Corey, Kevin, Cameron and Sarah; great-grandson Lincoln; and his three nieces, Jackie, Lori and Tracy.

Bud was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen Chase, a nephew, Kevin Gammon, and his wife, Patricia Chase.

A service for Bud will be held at a later date in his hometown of Andover, Maine where he will be laid to rest.
