Shirley Ann Quinlan

LEWISTON – Shirley Ann Quinlan of Lewiston, formerly of Lisbon, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 with her family at her side on March 7, 2025, at the Hospice House, Auburn.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1935, in Brockton, daughter of John M Quinlan and Catherine (Guyette) Quinlan of Brockton, Mass.

After attending St. Patrick’s School in Brockton, she then graduated from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in Lewiston in 1957. Following graduation, she worked at the University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio as staff nurse in Pediatrics, and eventually, Assistant Head Nurse.

Shortly after returning to Maine in 1962, she and her family built the first new long-term care facility in the L/A area. The Lamp was opened in 1963, and we eventually converted to an Alzheimer’s facility in 1995.

She was a member of the CMGH-CMMC Alumni Association where she was honored at a luncheon for her many years of service.

She was also co-owner of Shamrock RV Park in Biddeford.

Among her interests she loved traveling in her motorhome, playing the piano-organ, reading, and especially playing Bingo with her friends.

She is survived by her sister, Lillian Karkos and her husband, Norman; nephews Norm Karkos and Andrew Karkos, niece Carol A. Wood and husband Mark; grandniece Abigail Wood and grandnephew Harland Karkos.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Lisbon Falls, at 10 a.m. on May 23.
