Faye Lucille “Lu” Casey
RUMFORD – Lucille (Perrault) Casey passed from this life on Jan. 15, 2025, in the loving presence of her daughter, her son, and her daughter-in-law, while receiving last rites.
She was born and raised in Rumford and was the daughter of Antonio and Leona (Metevier) Perrault. In 1952, she moved to Boston, Mass. where she attended the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, and in 1960, she moved to Lockport, N.Y., with her husband, Gerard Casey, her son, Michael, and her twin daughters Karen and Candy. Lu worked as an operating room nurse at Lockport Memorial Hospital for over 30 years before retiring and moving to Tarpon Springs, Fla., in 1995, where she led a busy and productive life, working part time at Eckard’s Pharmacy and enjoying swimming, bowling, and shuffleboard.
In 2004, she moved to Boynton Beach, Fla., to be closer to her daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Carlos. She survived lung cancer in 2012 and celebrated by taking a Caribbean cruise with her children; she loved cruises and went on many. In 2017, Lu moved to Durham, N.C., to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law and to move into a continuing care retirement community. Her daughter Karen moved to Durham, N.C. a few months later, and the two of them spent many happy hours together. Throughout all this time, Lu stayed in close touch with her children, her sisters, her nieces and nephews, and her dear friends in Lockport, N.Y. She was a vibrant presence in her new home, retaining her feisty and forthright personality to the end.
Lu was preceded in death by her sisters Anita Richardson and Ethel Tribou; and by her daughter, Candy.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen, her son, Michael and his wife Ruth, her daughter-in-law, Diane; her niece, Merlene, her niece, Susan, her nephew, Dean and his wife Jennifer, her nephew, Merle (Champ) and his wife Janis, her nephew, John “Tommy” and his wife Beth, and her nephew, Mark.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of The Forest at Duke in Durham, N.C. for taking such good care of her in her final years.
