William R. Saucier
AUBURN – William was born in Lewiston on Nov. 23, 1948, the son of Roland and Joan Saucier (Burrows). Bill spent his whole life living on Mt. Gile in Auburn. Working at the East Auburn IGA through his high school years, Bill graduated from Edward Little High School, class of 1967.
In 1970, he graduated from the University of Maine with a civil engineer associate degree and in 1973 he earned his bachelor’s. While attending the university, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi.
William married his devoted wife, Lucille Perron, on Sept. 4, 1972.
William worked at Callahan Brothers and Reed & Reed as a field engineer and surveyor. He was a member of the 407 Carpenters Union for 10 years and a member of The Maine Society of Land Surveyors. For over 50 years, he was an active member of the East Auburn Community Unit where he helped run many community events, including the East Auburn Little World’s Fair.
Bill was a helper, from raising money for scholarships to clearing snow from driveways, he was always present. He was a good neighbor and made many friends over the years. “Billy” was a softball player, gardener, and extreme collector. Many will remember “Hilda”, a Model T Ford that he refurbished and enjoyed showing at antique car shows. He was an avid creator never ceasing to adorn, reclaim, construct, repair, and preserve. Proudly and often stubbornly known for doing it “his way”, he truly could do it every way.
When their children were young, Bill and Lucille would take their family camping to all the corners of Maine. After Bill retired at the age of 65, the two enjoyed travels to more distant locations including Alaska, Australia, and Iceland.
With his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kelly Gwarjanski with her husband Joe of Minot and their children Bradley and Adam; his daughter, Kimberly Myers with her husband Lucas of South Portland and their children Iris and Everett; his daughter, Kristina Thompson with her husband Max of Auburn and their children Alexander and Jackson; and his sister, Patricia Riley with her husband, Tom of Delaware.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by The Fortin & Pinette Group, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, send donations to
