Take a forest bath

NEW GLOUCESTER — On Saturday, June 14, certified guide Hughes Kraft will lead a forest bathing experience at Pineland Farms.

The experience is a two-hour opportunity to slow down and connect with oneself while connecting with nature. It is not a destination hike or a naturalist walk. It is an invitation to explore the relationship between being human and the more-than-human world. It is a time to connect with the health and wellness within oneself and quiet the nervous system.

Hughes is a certified nature forest therapy guide. The event is for adults 18 and older, running from 10 a.m. to noon. It starts at Pineland Farm’s Education Barn. $20 a person. Preregistration is required.

Be awed by masters of sound and silence

BATH — Avner the Eccentric (Avner Eisenberg), hailed as one of the greatest clowns of all time, and Al Getler, a world-class ventriloquist and comedian, will bring their talents to the Chocolate Church stage Saturday, June 14.

Getler will open the show. Combining his sharp wit and skills, his shows are filled with laughs for audiences of all sizes, age groups and performance venues.

Getler has appeared on the Discovery/A&E Network channels hundreds of times. In addition, he has been featured on “CBS News” and “Good Morning America,” and in the Wall Street Journal and USA Today newspapers.

Eisenberg will then perform. A master of physical comedy and theatrical magic, he is perhaps best known for his scene-stealing role in the movie “The Jewel of the Nile,” though his long list of achievements includes being the first clown to perform a one-man act on Broadway, “Avner the Eccentric.”

Trained by the legendary Jacques Lecoq, Avner’s career spans film, television and international theater, with his solo show Exceptions to Gravity captivating audiences worldwide. A renowned teacher and mentor, he has pioneered silent theater as an art form and a therapeutic tool. He has long ties to Maine’s legendary Celebration Barn in South Paris.

The show starts at 7 p.m. The Chocolate Church Arts Center is at 804 Washington St. in Bath. For prices, seats and more information, go to www.chocolatechurcharts.org.

Starting at 7 p.m., the talented Chadwick will open the evening of comedy. He is a house comic and producer at Empire Comedy Club in Portland and Pine Tree Punchlines, and has performed with several notable acts including Joe List, Big Jay Oakerson and Ari Shaffir.

Bjork is a polished veteran of the highly competitive Boston comedy scene with crisscrossing tours of the country under his belt. His material is intelligent, sometimes absurd and always accessible, but first and foremost it is funny. What truly sets him apart from the teeming crowd of today’s comedians is that you never have to ask Bjork to work “clean.”

On Saturday from 5-7 p.m., the center will host Afternoon Dance Party with DJ XO. Get dressed up or dressed down but plan on moving your booty to pulsing lights and a downbeat that just won’t let go. Dragon Wagon’s yum yum food truck will be onsite and the center will have beer, wine and Grandy Organic nuts.

Tickets are $15 and support the Music Series and Denmark Arts Center. For reservations and more information go online at www.denmarkarts.org. The center is at 50 West Main St.

Celebrate St. Jean-Baptiste Day

LEWISTON — The Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine and the Franco Center will host a celebration of St. Jean-Baptiste Day at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., on June 24 at 6 p.m.

The event promises to be an exciting tribute to St. Jean-Baptiste celebrations of days gone by. St. Jean-Baptiste, the patron saint of Québec, inspired large-scale parades, parties and special religious Masses in Lewiston between the late-19th century and the mid-20th century, sometimes growing so large they needed two separate parades to include all the floats and participants.

The doors will open at 5 p.m., along with the cash bar and conversation in French and English. At 6 p.m., dinner will begin. Music featuring Robert Sylvain and Steve Muise will start at 6:30 p.m. Don and Cindy Roy will take the stage at 8 p.m. accompanied by Cindy Larock, who will lead contra dancing until 9 p.m.

The dinner menu will include Franco-American foods, featuring pâté chinois, pea soup, and sugar pie for dessert. There will also be a vegetarian version of pâté chinois and a green salad and rolls. Water, lemonade and coffee drinks are part of the ticket price; sodas and bar drinks are available for purchase.

Ticket prices are: adults $22, seniors $18, children 12 and under $12. Ticket sales end Tuesday, June 17. For more information or to reserve your seat, contact the Franco Center at 207-689-2000 or www.francocenter.org/shows.
