Barbara E. McDonald

FARMINGTON – Barbara E. McDonald, 86, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Sandy River Center in Farmington. She was born May 26, 1938, in Hartford, the daughter of Israel and Doris (Beck) Gammon.

Barbara was a 1956 graduate of Buckfield High School. On June 29, 1956, in Jay, she married Douglas McDonald. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before his passing on April 16, 2013.

Barbara devoted her time to her family and home and worked in the cafeteria at the Jay schools. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family gatherings. Barbara enjoyed playing bingo at the county fairs and at the Woodland Nursing Home. Her and Doug were snowbirds traveling to Florida in the winters for 20 years. She also enjoyed shopping, and getting her hair done every Thursday. Barbara was a former member of Jay Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Barry McDonald and his wife Cheryl of Jay, Bonnie McDonald of North Carolina, Brian McDonald and his wife Karen of Jay, and Belinda Frechette and her husband Maurice “Moe” of Greenville Junction; eight granddaughters, Sara Fullerton and husband Mark, Jaime Roberts, Melissa, Cassandra Chasse and husband Matt, and Kristina Frechette, Jennifer Letendre and husband Jake, Lindsey Hiscock and husband Gerald “Yogi” and ReNae McDonald; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Dunn and Dorothy Brown, both of Sumner. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Doug; four brothers, James, Francis, Ted and Oscar Gammon and her sister, Jeannette O’Neal.

Barbara’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Sandy River, and health care providers at Woodlands Nursing Home, for the care provided to Barbara.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 100 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine. A celebration of life luncheon will follow the graveside service at LaFleurs Restaurant.
