Christopher Donald Gilbert

RUMFORD – Christopher Donald Gilbert, 38, passed away at Joe’s Pond in Rumford, Maine, a place close to home that held sentimental value to him. Christopher was born in Farmington, Maine on Nov. 5, 1986. He is the son of Laurie Hockenbrocht Soucy and Dean Donald Gilbert.

From a young age, Chris enjoyed skiing and hiking. As Chris got older, his passion for nature only grew and he became an avid outdoorsman. He would take any opportunity he could to be in the fresh air, connecting with nature. Most recently, this passion led him to seek employment in The National park in Colter Bay Wyoming and ski resort in Stowe, Vt. Wherever he lived, he was surrounded by mountains, crisp air and stunning views.

Although his life ended too soon, Chris had hoped to hike the Appalachian trail and had aspirations to travel more internationally. He loved learning about his family history and wished to travel to Germany, as his mother was primarily of German descent.

Much like his late mother, Christopher loved to cook, testing new recipes and enjoying his creations with family. He was a maestro in the kitchen. Being a talented chef was only one of the traits he shared with his mother, the person he was closest with. Chris and his mother shared a sweet and special bond.

Chris was a good natured person who loved his family. When his younger sister was a child he took an active role in her life, playing outside and swimming together in the summer, bonding with the family pets, and cheering her on in any of her endeavors.

Christopher is survived by his stepfather John Soucy of Rumford; sister Kirsten Soucy of Portland; and his father Dean Gilbert and his companion Lorna Dever both of Greenwood. He was predeceased by his mother, Laurie Soucy of Rumford.

Friends and family are invited to share memories of Christopher at http://www.meaderandsoncom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at the Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius St. John Church 126 Maine Ave, Rumford. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Rumford.

Arrangements are by the Meader & Son Funeral Home.
