Dorothy J. Varney

AUBURN – Dorothy J. Varney, 91, of Turner, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Chapman House. She was the wife of the late George A. Varney, who died in 2020.

She was born in Lewiston on June 14, 1933, a daughter of the late Edwin L. and Dorothy M. (Cook) Jordan. She and George were married on August 25, 1951, and together raised three children.

Dot was a devout wife, mother, grandmother and Christian, who lived her life on the farm that she loved until her retirement.

She is survived by her son Alvin G. Varney and her daughter Lindy (Varney) Wood and her husband John. She also leaves her daughter-in-law Pauline (Clark) Varney; a sister Shirley Stevens, a brother Gerald Jordan and a brother-in-law, Charles Varney; as well as her grandchildren Mikala and Tom Burleigh, Kate and Ryan Timms, Jacob Varney, Matthew and Kimbre Varney, Diane and Tony Guiney, Nicolas and Telvina Nabot, Terence and Annette Lee, Rene and Hayley Andersen; and 18 great grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Andrew Varney; the mother-in-law of the late Kathryn (James) Varney; great grandmother of Lauren Grace Varney; and the sister of the late Clifton Jordan and Edwin Jordan Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at The East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave, Auburn. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Committal prayers will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Turner Village Cemetery, Turner.
