OXFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Thursday awarded Bedard Excavation of Paris the contract to reconstruct Rabbit Valley Road, with work expected to begin soon.
Rob Prue of Pine Tree Engineering reviewed the five bids received with selectmen at their biweekly meeting.
The bids ranged from nearly $1.4 million to $2.9 million. Bedard Excavation submitted the low bid.
Prue recommended the contract go to the low bidder, noting the company has successfully completed several construction projects in Oxford in the past. Selectmen unanimously agreed.
Rabbit Valley Road runs between King Street and Route 26.
The town will commit $85,000 to the project. That money was appropriated at last year’s town meeting. A grant received from the Maine Department of Transportation totaling $1.6 million will cover the rest of the project.
Construction is expected to begin this month or early July and completed by fall, Prue said.
“It’s going to be messy,” Prue said. “There’s going to be traffic delays like any other construction project.”
Signs will be placed requesting that traffic on Rabbit Valley Road be limited to local only.
