DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Auburn Community Concert Band will kick off its 44th annual summer series of outdoor concerts Wednesday, June 18, at Festival Plaza on Main Street in downtown Auburn.
Free 75-minute concerts are planned every Wednesday evening through Aug. 20, weather permitting. Each week, starting at 7 p.m., the band will perform a different program of music featuring popular hit songs from each decade from the ’60s through the present.
Ample free parking is available in the parking garage across the street from the Plaza. Attendees should bring lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, visit www.auburncommunityband.com for that evening’s concert status. — Milt, band director, no town
ANSWER: I’m looking forward to that and I’m sure lots of other folks are too. Thank you for providing us with such lively entertainment.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to be sure everyone knows about the latest scam going through our state right now. A text comes up as Maine Department of Motor Vehicles stating you have unpaid fines and turnpike toll charges. It states if you do not respond promptly, your license will be suspended.
When I Googled the 956-342-1998 number, I saw that it had a Texas area code. I have no outstanding fines and my TRANSPASS account is in good standing. I’m blocking that number and deleted it without opening the full message. I wanted to pass the information along to all the folks in Sun Spots Land.
Thank you for the awesome service you provide. We are blessed to have you. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: Thank you for helping me warn everyone of the latest scam. As if we don’t have enough to be concerned about right now!
I got the text first thing this morning then saw all kinds of messages on social media about it. Thousands of Mainers received the same message from multiple phone numbers.
Always be cautious, my friends, and never open a link on a text or email message unless you absolutely 100% know that it’s from a reliable source.
Block, report, delete, and spread the word, just like you did. Thank you for helping our readers be safe.

ANSWER: We just did that for another reader’s mother and the outpouring of special birthday wishes from Sun Spots Land was phenomenal. You can always count on us. I’ll remind readers again as the big birthday gets closer!
