Nathaniel David Ray

MINOT – On Saturday June 14, 2025, Nathaniel Ray, 36, of Minot, passed away at his home. Nate was the much loved son of Richard and Maida Ray.

Though Nate was born with CLOVES Syndrome (a rare genetic condition), he never let that become his identity. He lived life with great perseverance and expectancy, always dreaming and never holding back.

In his younger days he loved time at Matagamon, hiking in Baxter State Park, and trout fishing it’s waters. He loved music and enjoyed composing songs on his piano. His keen discernment of people helped him develop a talent for photography. After completing courses from New York Institute of Photography he started Standing Still Photography. Years later, a passion arose in him for good coffee, which led him to start Fox and Hound Coffee Company, which had a following of coffee aficionados far and wide.

On April 2, 2011, Nate married the love of his life Alexandra Sampson. His joy only grew as they were blessed with three boys, Declan, Hudson and Collin. Nate was an awesome Dad. He loved spending time with his boys telling made-up bedtime stories, singing grace at meals, drawing imaginative characters, and creating music. Through his commitment to them he has laid a solid foundation of love, creativity, fun, family, and a love of Jesus.

Nate leaves behind his parents; his wife; his three boys; as well as his faithful friend and brother, Joshua Ray, Josh’s wife Ryan and their children Ava, Iris, Elsie, Amos, and Fae. He also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

As many have responded to the news of his passing, the memories being shared are of the subtle, yet powerful impact his presence brought. He had a way of inspiring people and bringing a peace wherever he went. His smile was infectious. No matter the circumstance, his smile would break through. He will be sorely missed. Because of his firm faith, we look forward with thankful and expectant hearts to be reunited one day!

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
