DALLAS PLANTATION — The Maine Forestry Museum is holding its 44th Annual Logging Festival Days on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. The festival is located at the museum fairgrounds, 221 Stratton Rd.
The Maine Forestry Museum hosts multiple events in mid-July to celebrate the region’s timber heritage. Join us at our fairgrounds for our 44th Annual Logging Festival. This popular two-day event features an Educational Day, Working Forest Tour, Logging Parade, and Logging Festival.
Our Educational Day begins on Friday, July 11. Experience a Working Forest Tour (early sign-up required, 8 a.m. departure, $8 tour fee, contact the museum for details) or swing by at 11 a.m. to see a 2-Man chainsaw in operation. At 2 p.m. attend a presentation on the history of logging in the Rangeley region. At approximately 2:30 p.m., witness the burying of the beans for the Bean Hole Dinner that will be served on Saturday. Don’t miss the fun! Plus, admission is free to the public on Friday.

On Saturday, July 12, starting at 10 a.m. attend our morning Logging Parade along Rangeley’s Main Street featuring loaded big rig logging trucks, floats, antique cars and much more.
This year’s parade theme is “Forests from Around the World”. Winners for “Best Loaded Truck”, “Most Appropriate to Logging” (logging industry equipment), and “Best Fitting Parade Theme” for floats and other entries will be chosen. Want to have some fun? Create a float and march in the parade! So, get creative with your Forests from Around the World imagination! Simply contact our parade coordinator Linda Sikes at (207)491-6566.
At the conclusion of the morning Logging Parade, The Logging Festival kicks off at our museum fairgrounds with opening ceremonies followed by Hall of Fame inductions, famous Bean Hole Dinner, biscuits baked on reflector ovens, and the exciting logging competition.
Come see the competition events such as the axe throw, hot saw, crosscut, bow saw, underhand chop, springboard and many more. There will be children’s activities all day including our popular barrel train ride, mini excavator, face painting, bouncy house, and more. Our vendors, artisans and crafters will be there too! Don’t forget to check out our beer garden as well!
On Saturday, admission to the fairgrounds is free for Maine Forestry Museum members. Admission for non-members to the fairgrounds is $8 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6 to 17, children 5 and under free.
