Rodney Charles Howitt
RUMFORD – Rodney Charles Howitt passed away on July 1, 2025. Born in Rumford on May 22, 1945, to Charles and Margaret Swan Howitt. He grew up in Rumford and attended Rumford schools, graduating from Stephens High School in 1963.
He married the love of his live Brenda C. Viger Howitt on March 19, 1964. They have been married for 61 yrs. They had three children and was very proud of David R. (Pam) Howitt Slidell, La., Angela Howitt of Rumford, Douglas (Diane) Howitt of Scarborough, four grandchildren, Jill Howitt Deluca (Andrew) Slidell, La., Adam Howitt of Mississippi, Alexa Howitt and Noah Howitt of Scarborough, and great-grandchildren Parker David Deluca and Brady Dominic Deluca.
Rodney and Brenda built their dream home together in 1977. Rodney worked for 45 years in the Rumford Mill as a beater engineer before his retirement in March of 2008. They traveled through the U.S., Hawaii, Florida, New Orleans and many more, but their favorite place ever was Bar Harbor, Maine, where they went together for over 20 years.
Rodney loved country music, especially Merle Haggard. He loved watching NASCAR racing and his favorite driver was Darrell Waltrip. Rodney’s favorite time of year was fall, where he could not wait to go on a trip.
Rodney will be missed dearly by his best friend and loving wife, Brenda; his children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and two brothers, George (Jenny) Howitt and Leland Howitt. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Margaret (Swan) Howitt.
Funeral services were held 9 a.m. Thursday. Interment was in St John Cemetery in Rumford.
