Janice E. Sweeney

JAY – Janice E. Sweeney – Janice – passed away surrounded by family and friends on Monday, July 14, 2025, after a short illness. She was born on Aug. 25, 1953, to George and Lorraine Fournier. She was a lifelong resident of Jay, where she attended Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School and graduated from Jay High School in 1971. She went on to work in the local paper mill for many years, bartended at a local establishment (one of the best pool players), and ran Two Sisters Catering. She met Chuck (hello, darling) Sweeney in 1981, and they were married in 1989; he predeceased her in 2017. There is not enough room to pen her many accomplishments, but all those who knew her can attest to the fact that she was an enormous pillar in the community, garnering many accolades.

She is survived by her siblings and spouses, George and Donna Fournier of Fredericksburg, Va., Steve and Cindy Groomes of Livermore Falls, Peter of Lamar, Co., and Susan Fournier and Marina Mares of Freeport, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family is very thankful for all the help received in her final days.

Family and friends are invited to Janice’s memorial visitation on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Jay. Visit her Book of Memories at http://www.wilesrc.com to share stories, reflections or photos. Cremation care is under the direction of Wiles Remembrance Center-Jay.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Janice by spending time with the people you love, sharing a hug, and being grateful for your loved ones.
