Shirley F. Koss
DEDHAM, Mass. – Shirley F. Koss, affectionately known as “Shirl,” passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Dedham, Massachusetts, at the age of 87. Born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Livermore Falls, Shirley’s life was marked by an unwavering devotion to family, steadfast friendships, and a deep commitment to helping others.
While attending Lasell College, where she received a BA in business, Shirley met the love of her life, Herbert “Beau” Koss. Their love blossomed into a marriage that lasted 67 joyful years – a testament to their devotion and partnership.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Koss: her son Peter Koss: her daughter, Linda Grosser: her three cherished grandchildren: Matthew Grosser, Benjamin Grosser and his wife Arielle, Allison Selya and her husband Aaron. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Mary Silverman: her brother Aaron Silverman and her daughter-in-law, Anita Koss.
Shirley’s professional life was spent as a dedicated administrative assistant for several companies in and around Lewiston area. She was admired for her diligence, attention to detail, and gracious spirit in the workplace.
A proud and active member of Temple Beth Abraham in Auburn, Shirley was particularly devoted to its Sisterhood, frequently volunteering for charity events and community projects. Her commitment to service extended to volunteering at the Central Maine Medical Center, where she happily pitched in wherever she was needed.
An avid tennis player, Shirley enjoyed countless hours on the courts, both playing singles and doubles. She was also a true Boston sports fan, delighting in following local teams and impressing all with her encyclopedic knowledge of baseball and basketball stats. She rarely missed watching a Red Sox or Celtics game and attended games when the occasion arose.
Of all her many passions, nothing brought Shirley more joy than her role as grandmother to Ally, Ben, and Matt. She relished being part of their lives, celebrating milestones, cheering at games, attending camp visiting days and making memories that her grandchildren will forever treasure.
Shirley will be laid to rest on July 17, 2025, in a private family service at Temple Beth Abraham Cemetery in Auburn. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit that will be dearly missed.
