
Lewis “Barry” King
JAY – Lewis “Barry” King, 68, of Jay, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a cardiac event.
He was born Oct. 1, 1956, in Farmington, the son of Etta “Diddy” (King) Payeur and Adolph Payeur, Jr. He was a 1974 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.
He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime, one of the most interesting was managing and coordinating the setups for the “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” shows and museums. On Jan. 4, 2010, he married his life partner of 39 years, Charles Burwell. During those years, they lived in Florida for 21 years, 17 of them in Key West, they later lived in New Haven and Northford, Conn. for several years before relocating to Maine to be near Barry’s family.
Barry loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing, gemstone hunting, working in the gardens and going to his brother’s camp in Bingham. He also liked playing cribbage, cards, making gemstone jewelry, and drinking a bottle of “Moxie”.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Adolph Payeur, Jr. and his wife Carolyn Payeur of Dixfield; siblings Jeffrey Payeur and companion Melissa of Canton, Terry Payeur and companion, Patty of Florida, Dwayne Goding and wife Delina of Jay, Darlene Jordan of Livermore, Jacqueline Fontenot and companion Bill Parker of Jay, Laurie Leadbetter of Jay, Tina Payeur of Farmington and Sherri McDonald of Dixfield; his stepdaughter, Nicole Burwell Michaud of Connecticut; also, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Etta “Diddy” Payeur; husband Charles Burwell; and brother-in-law, Lee Fontenot, Jr.

A graveside service at Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Rd., Livermore Falls, will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2 at Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Rd., Livermore Falls. Arrangements by Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls.
