Harvey Wilson “Will” Eastman MD
JAY – Harvey Wilson “Will” Eastman, M.D., touched the hearts of many, and his legacy of kindness, wisdom, and humor will live on in the lives of his family and friends. Son of Dr. Charles W. and Margaret Pert Eastman, Will was born on April 17, 1940, in Boston, Mass., and passed away on July 26, 2025.
He was a proud graduate of Bowdoin College and McGill University’s medical school —where he met the love of his life, his Dutch-Canadian sweetheart, Martina Traas. He dedicated 40 years of his life to caring for others as a physician. His career took him from serving as a medical officer at Eielson Air Force Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska, to practicing as a trusted family doctor in his hometown, to his final role as a physician at the International Paper Company.
Will found joy in the simple things — spending time with family and friends, caring for his adored pets, gardening and planting trees, and exploring nature through camping, water activities, and fishing. A devoted family man, he treasured everyday moments and often considered walking his children to the bus stop one of his greatest accomplishments. He was blessed with a keen sense of humor and a quick wit, appreciating the funny things in life and sharing his laughter generously. In addition to having a caring heart, he was a voracious reader and a talented woodworker, crafting clocks, furniture, and toys for his grandchildren. He even built a sailboat named Dutch Girl, after his wife, and they enjoyed sailing together on Carry Pond, Maine for many years.
Will is survived by his beloved wife, Martina “Tini” Traas Eastman with whom he enjoyed 59 years of a loving and joyful marriage; and his four cherished children and their spouses, Lorrina Eastman (Jim Pegram), Gayle Varhol (Paul), Heather Eastman (Angie Wood), and Charles Eastman (Marjorie). He leaves a legacy of several beautiful grandchildren, Preston, Wilson, and Margot Pegram (Lorrina); Sean, Sarah, and Janelle Crowley (Gayle); Ava and Cole Shearer (Heather); and Henk (Charles). He also has two bonus grandchildren, Alex and Amanda Varhol; and two great grandchildren, Paisley Lima and Charlotte Crowley. He is survived by his sister Margaret Farmer, brother Bruce Eastman, and his in-laws, Jan Eastman, Sven and Laura Eriksson, Rina Bardo, John and Nettie Traas, and Henk and Jane Traas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church, Livermore Falls, Maine on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., with public visitation from 3:00 – 4:00. Visitation and the Celebration of Life will be livestreamed, visit Dr. Eastman’s obituary page at http://www.wilesrc.com to view.
