Dean Harris Wiers Sr.

LEWISTON – Dean Harris Wiers, Sr., of 25 Martin Drive in Lewiston, died Saturday morning August 9, 2025, at home with family.

He was born in Haynesville, Maine on Sept. 15, 1927, the son of Byron C. and Jannie (Bubar) Wiers. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946 and US Army as a Sargent from 1950 to 1952, within that time he was in Germany as a demolition specialist.

He worked in the shoe industry as a hand sewer for 40 plus years and was very proud of the craft he had. His years were mostly spent at Belgrade Shoe and Arnold Mock Shoe. He could make magic with leather and his needles. He worked until his retirement at 73 years old.

He loved the life he built with his wife Lucille of 60 plus years and enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to tell stories and tease and would smile watching the reactions he would get. He was loved by many and will be truly missed by all.

He is survived by his children Linda Gunnoe and her husband Jack, Dean Wiers, Jr. and his wife Susan, Patty Vigue and her husband Simon and Carla Bouchard and her husband Jim; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild on the way.

He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth of Palmayra, Winifred of Dexter, Alfred of Auburn, Byron Wiers of St. Albans, and a sister Opal Carpenter of Pittsfield.

We want to thank Dr. Matthew Harden FNP, his doctor, for the exceptional care he provided and a big thank you to Andwell Hospice team. They are a tremendous group that work with dignity and respect.

A shelter service will be held in Maine Veterans Cemetery on Friday August 22 at 9:00 a.m. Arrangement by The Fortin & Pinette Group, Lewiston.
