Louise M. Buschmann

TOPSHAM – Louise M. (Michaud) Buschmann, 87, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at Highlands Assisted Living Community in Topsham, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on Aug. 17, 1938, in Lewiston, daughter of Leonard and Jeannette (Gagnon) Michaud.

She graduated with honors from Lewiston High School and attended the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She was employed in the office of North American Phillips for several years. She married the love of her life Edmund A. Buschmann, of Lewiston, on Aug. 26, 1961. A devoted partner, she collaborated with her husband in cultivating their tree farm on Dyer Road and worked alongside him at E.A. Buschmann for two decades.

Blessed with culinary artistry, she enjoyed hosting family and friends, and she delighted in tending her flower gardens. As a dedicated member and contributor to the Cornell University School of Ornithology, she embarked on global expeditions to observe and catalogue numerous birds. Louise and Ed were adventurous spirits who traveled the world together, finding joy in tennis, snow skiing, as well as, water skiing at Lake Pennesseewassee and enjoying other various seaside retreats. Following their child-rearing years, they established winter residences on Long Boat Key in Florida and, in their golden years, in Green Valley, Ariz. Above all, she treasured her role as a cherished Mémère to her two granddaughters.

Throughout her life, as she faced several challenges, she was always determined to see them through. Giving up was not an option.

She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws; a daughter, Jennifer Buschmann; sisters-in-law Susan Michaud, Caroline Barnes, Marion True, brothers-in-law Robert True, Bowdoin Barnes; and a niece, Julia Buschmann.
