Stephen “Steve” D. Aldrich

ROXBURY – Stephen “Steve” D. Aldrich, 80, died Tuesday Aug. 19, 2025, at his home in Roxbury. Steve was born in Norway, Maine, on Dec. 11, 1944, the son of Homer and Gladys (Starbird) Aldrich. He was proud to share his birthday with his firstborn daughter and her son.

Steve worked as a meat cutter for Sampson’s Supermarket and then for Boise Cascade Paper Mill. In his earlier years, Steve served his community by working part-time for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and volunteering as a firefighter. He also enjoyed participating in the South Paris Fireman Muster competition. An avid woodworker, Steve crafted many special projects for his family. A skilled hunter and fisherman, “Grampie” enjoyed sharing the stories of his adventures with his grandchildren.

Steve married Joyce Abbott in West Paris on May 21, 1983 and is survived by Joyce of Roxbury. Other survivors include his daughters, Shari Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shelly Davidson and husband John of West Paris, and Stephanie Aldrich of Fayette, stepdaughter, Deborah Pfaffenberger and husband Thomas of Rome City, Ind., stepson, Daniel Johnson and wife Brenda of Leeds. Steve loved and was much loved by 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his stepson, Scot Johnson.

At Steve’s request, there will not be a funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
