Gerald “Gerry” Oak Thompson Jr.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. – Gerald “Gerry” Oak Thompson, Jr., 80, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away at his home Aug. 23, 2025.

Gerry was born March 9, 1945, in Jay, to the late Gerald Oak Thompson, Sr. and Clara May (Drysdale) Thompson. He was also preceded by his wife, Bonnie J. (Greene); and sister, Linda Heimbach.

He is survived by his daughter, Geraldine Beatrice Bennett and husband of Hedgesville, W.Va., a son, Charles Waters, who he never forgot; siblings Bruce Thompson (Eva), of Livermore, and Pamela Sechrist of McVeytown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind many cousins, especially Steve Thompson; nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Nels and Samantha Hawkins, who were like a son and daughter.

A military honors ceremony will be held Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. An extended obit is at: PotomacCremation.com

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Berkeley Senior Services Caregivers Respite Program, Martinsburg, W.Va. and the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) in memory of Gerry.
