BANGOR – Susan Lynn Brooke, 73, of Bangor, passed on July 23, 2025, surrounded by her children.
Born in Maine and a lifelong resident, Susan was a devoted mother, grandmother, librarian, crafter, gardener, and baker, fondly called “Aunt Cookie” by many nieces and nephews. She raised her children with fierce love and grace, and later cared for her mother for many years in Newry.
A lover of books, Jane Austen, and cozy mysteries, Susan brought warmth and humor to every life she touched. She cherished walks by the sea, collecting sea glass and shells along the Maine coast. Her legendary peanut butter bars and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Thomas Wight.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Jennifer Bowie and Christopher Bowie; her children’s spouses William Ruhsam and Sarah Bowie; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Bowie, Elizabeth Bowie, and Griffin Ruhsam; extended family, and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. at Lamoine Beach Park, 828 Lamoine Beach Rd., in Lamoine. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
