Joseph Richard Hunt Jr.
MINOT – Joseph Richard Hunt Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on August 24, 2025. Joe will forever be remembered as a true Adventurer, with an honorable spirit and a great love and respect for his family, nature, the outdoors, and driving his favorite car, a 2005 Dodge Magnum.
Born Sept. 30, 1948, in Washington D.C. to parents Joseph Richard Hunt Senior and Fredda Mae Jones, he attended a private Christian school and graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Md. He then worked at McCalls Magazine before joining the Navy.
He was stationed in Brunswick, Maine when he met the love of his life, Georgette, who he knew at first sight would be his wife. The two would go on to share 53 beautiful years of marriage together.
After the navy, he went back into the printing industry for 30 years. He was also a charter boat captain, a PADI scuba diver instructor, and bred and showed award winning Himalayan cats. He also owned a successful Cat Club, and he built his family house in Maine himself. He was also an experienced fisherman and hunter, from winning the Moose lottery (after trying for 20 years!), to caribou hunting in Quebec, to catching bluefish and striped bass.
A dedicated father, Joe also felt immense pride acting as a National Archery Coach for USA Archery alongside his son, Joseph Richard Hunt III, who became the Archery World Champion in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Georgette Hunt; his son, Joseph Hunt III, and wife Nickyia Hunt; two grandsons, Wesley and Easton Hunt; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorial services will be held in honor of Joe on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at the Vineyard Church at 90 Lewiston St, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the church.
