DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Social Justice and Peace Commission of St. Catherine of Sienna Church invites you to their Fall Rummage Sale on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9-11:30 a.m. in the church hall at 32 Paris St. in Norway.
Shoppers will find a wide variety of treasures, including clothing, linens, hand tools, and Christmas décor, all while supporting a worthy cause. Payment will be by donation and proceeds from the sale will benefit the free community Thanksgiving dinner.
Come early for the best selection or take a chance at 11 a.m. with a dollar-a-bag special. — Sandy, Norway
ANSWER: I love any excuse to come to Norway, so guess what? I’m putting this event on my calendar right now. Are you?
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Many thanks for your assistance in publicizing the Chris Branch Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament. In its third year, we gained new sponsors and golfers, resulting in net proceeds of just under $11,000! The scholarship committee will again be able to award scholarships to graduating Maine high school swimmers and divers in Chris’s memory.
Next year’s tournament is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2026 (save the date)! Thanks again. — Rick, Auburn
ANSWER: I’m so happy for you all! Thank you for reporting back. When a Sun Spotter asks to publicize a fundraiser, I often wonder how it went!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for including my request for more volunteers for the Drop-in Center in the Sept. 12 Sun Spots. I want to add that if someone is interested in volunteering, they need to contact me and my email was left out of the article. Would you please let folks know how to contact me? The best way is through my email: [email protected]. Thanks so much for all your support! — Sue, no town
ANSWER: Thank you for providing that information, Sue. I apologize for leaving that out. I hope you get some emails that culminate in great volunteers. I really believe in what you all are doing there and want to see the organization continue to thrive.
Here is the original letter with more information in case any readers missed it: “The Drop-in Center at 121 Mill St. in Auburn needs additional kitchen volunteers. Our numbers are increasing each week and we need more helping hands.
We are open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provide our unhoused neighbors with two hot meals each day. Kitchen volunteers prepare food, serve our guests, and help keep our service area filled with needed items.
We need kitchen volunteers both days but at the moment, we are especially in need of someone to join the Wednesday morning kitchen crew. If you are looking for a meaningful volunteer experience with a fun group of folks, please contact me for more details. Thank you. — Sue, no town”
