Tim Cowan, a public health professional and 25-year resident of Auburn, is running for reelection to the Ward 2 City Council seat.
“During my first term, the council kept property tax increases as small as possible while maintaining quality services. We launched 121 Mill Street to help those experiencing homelessness. We created a property tax and rent rebate program for eligible seniors. We implemented septic system inspections in the Lake Auburn watershed to help protect the city’s drinking water,” Cowan said.
“There is still more to accomplish — including increasing housing, supporting and expanding Auburn’s business sector, continuing to address homelessness, and responsibly managing the city’s budget, services, and natural resources,” he said.
Cowan graduated from Bates College in 1991 and received a master of science degree in public health from the University of South Carolina in 1994. He is the director of Community Health Surveillance and Evaluation at MaineHealth.
Cowan and his wife, Marianne, moved to Auburn in 2000, where they raised their two children. He has volunteered in many community organizations, including as a Boy Scout leader, a trustee of his church, chair of the Healthy Androscoggin Advisory Council and as president of the Board of Directors for L/A Community Little Theatre. As a councilor, Cowan co-chaired the Mayor’s Ad-hoc Committee on Homelessness.
“I would be honored to continue representing Ward 2 on the council,” Cowan said. “I will keep using data and citizens’ views to develop the best solutions possible to meet Auburn’s current needs and to achieve its future goals.”
