Dr. William A. Bagley
LEWISTON – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. William A. Bagley; he died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2025, with his wife, Judith, and his children by his side.
Born in 1941 at Central Maine General in Lewiston, he grew up across the country before returning to Lewiston, with his beloved wife, Judy, to raise their six children. He was a dedicated and proud family man who instilled a strong sense of integrity and purpose in his children.
He attended Cranwell Preparatory School in Lennox, Massachusetts, and graduated from Marquette School of Dentistry in 1965. He continued his education and training in oral surgery at Bellview/NYU Hospital, where he met the love of his life, Judy. They were married on Jan. 20, 1968. William served his country with honor as a Captain in the U.S. Army. When stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas, they welcomed their first born, Anne. During the Vietnam war, he served in the 191st Evac and the 195th Evac hospitals and while he was deployed, they were blessed with the arrival of their second daughter, Mary. After redeploying stateside, he was stationed at Ft. Dix, N.J., then moved to join two of his colleagues in practice in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where they celebrated the births of son, William, and daughter Catie. Once settled in Lewiston, son, Brian, and daughter, Bridget, were joyfully added to the family.
While maintaining his private practice on Main Street, he was a member of the medical staff and served on several committees at both St. Mary’s and CMMC for nearly 40 years. His sense of commitment was reflected in his skill and compassion shown to all of his patients over a long and respected career.
Following retirement, “Doc” found fulfillment volunteering in his community, especially at the Trinity Jubilee Center where he quietly made a difference in the lives of many. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and spending time working on antique cars and sharing laughs with his friends Web, Joe and Al. He will be remembered fondly by all those he held close. Judy, his soulmate, was the center of his world and his source of strength. Together, they built a home filled with love and support. His pride and joy was being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather; nothing brought him greater happiness than having his family together and watching each one of them pursue their own path in life.
He will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind including: his wife, Judy, and his children, Anne and Douglas; Mary and Clayton; Bill and Angela; Catie and Boyd; Brian and Trinity; and Bridget and Ethan. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Seth, Alex, Jaxyn, Sean, and Gavin, and his great grandchildren, Aliya and Levi. He is predeceased by his parents, his beloved sister, Jane, and her husband, Bill, as well as many other cherished extended family members.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Holy Family Church. Interment will be at the Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date.
