“Tuesday afternoon a little daughter of Mr George Newton, of Auburn, had a very fortunate escape from serious injury. She was passing Pierce’s jewelry store, as a man drove off the bridge, having in his wagon a calf, the cow following behind. As the cow saw the child on the sidewalk she sprang upon the little one, endeavoring to gore her; but the horns being very long passed by and threw her down. Before the cow could repeat the thrust, the child was rescued, terribly frightened, but not much hurt. It is another illustration of the danger of driving excited animals through the streets.”
