Irene Carmen Lemelin

AUBURN – Irene Carmen Lemelin, 82, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2025, in Auburn. She was born on July 27, 1943, in Lewiston, to Alfred and Florence (Goyette) Belanger.

Irene graduated in the top 10 of her class from Lewiston High School in 1961 and on Oct. 25, 1969, she married Larry N. Lemelin of Lewiston.

For decades, Irene worked at DeRosa and Chamberland Eyecare in Lewiston, where she enjoyed her career with a team she cherished. Her caring nature made her a respected colleague and friend to those who knew her.

Irene’s focus was always on her family. She enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren, and her wish was for her family to remain close. Her commitment to family will continue to be remembered by those she leaves behind.

Irene is survived by her children: Frank Lemelin and his wife Victoria of Old Orchard Beach, and Dana Lemelin and his husband Patrick LeRoy of Boston, Massachusetts. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Guy Lemelin and Mariah Lemelin, both of Seattle, Washington; Erica Lemieux of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Katie Lemieux of Old Orchard Beach. She is also survived by her siblings Norm Belanger and his wife, Ruthie, and Arline (Belanger) Stephan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Larry N. Lemelin.

A Liturgy of the Word for Irene will take place on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 217 Switzerland Road, Lewiston, ME 04240. Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin & Pinette Group Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, ME 04240, (207) 784-4023.
