Ruby H. Jordan

JAY – Ruby H. Jordan, 93, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Jay following a long illness. She was born in Mexico, Maine, on April 25, 1932, to Maurice A. Horne and Anna R. (Harlow) Horne. At age two, she lost her mother, forever altering the course of her life.

She was educated in the Mexico and Dixfield schools. During World War II, she was a member of the Army Air Force Ground Observer Corps, where her duties included identifying aircraft flying overhead.

On Jan. 4, 1948, she married Webster R. Jordan. Together, they shared 70 years of marriage before his passing on April 12, 2018.

Throughout her working years, Ruby was employed in various shoe shops, most notably Norwalk Shoe in North Jay. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, puzzle-making, gardening, and home renovation.

Ruby is survived by her children, Gayle Newkirk (James) of Georgetown, Texas, Robert Jordan (Robin) of Raymond, Janet Benedetto and her companion Marty of Gorham, Terry Letourneau (Mark) and Coleen Callagy (Dennis), both of Jay; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Nathan, Terrill, Heather, Erin, Lori, Faith, Michael, Sara, and Steven; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; her sons, Bruce and Brian Jordan; her parents; and many brothers and sisters.
