STRONG – John M. Alexander of Strong, Maine, formerly Cheshire, Conn., passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born Nov. 10, 1955, the son of Mattie Blume Alexander and Wesley H. Alexander Sr.

John served in the US Air Force and later worked in the transportation industry. After John retired, he moved to Maine and started Hucklebarry Hill English Labrador Retrievers. He was a member of the American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club, and National Labrador Retriever Club of Greater Boston. Anyone that knew John well knows he could talk about his dogs for hours…. as well as ANY other topic!

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Rachel McKayla Alexander.

He is survived by his son James Alexander (Katie); brother Wesley Alexander (Jamie), sister Marianne O’Dell and sister Lori Russo. John was also the proud “PopPop” to Sophia Lundquist, Madison Little, Amy Alexander, and Sam Alexander.

He leaves his friends Lorelle and Bruce Bruhn, Joe Brissette, Sally Hopkins, Dave Garcia, Sylvia Garcia, Krystyna Long, Ron Whittier, Debbie and Dave Norton, Jessica Reed, Leah Sanders and Laurie Sanders. Thank you all for the prayers, calls, visits and notes of encouragement.

He also leaves his special friend, Katie Garcia, who navigated the past 25 years with unwavering support, some strong words when needed, along with many laughs, love and adventures.

A special thank you to Andwell Health Partners and the Alfond Cancer Center for the compassion over the past few months.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery.
