Columnist Steve Collins wrote on Dec. 9: “If Janet Mills doesn’t wake up and start fighting, she’s toast.” Collins apparently forgets that our governor stood up to President Trump earlier this year and defiantly, in the Janet Mills way, said, “See you in court.” And she did – winning on behalf of us all.
Four social media posts form the basis for the column, a couple from Gov. Mills and Democratic rival Graham Platner. The posts are not particularly noteworthy. We’ve endured of late a firehose of social media posts and know they’re no measure of work ethic, integrity nor leadership. Mere seconds to post with no meaningful outcomes to improve our lives.
Gov. Mills has been working tirelessly for the folks of Maine since her earliest days in public service and staring at a phone won’t change this track record. Like the people of the state she represents, she goes about her work without needing constant adulation. She rolls up her sleeves and focuses on what matters, not shallow public engagement.
No better example of this is an experience my wife and I had attending an evening event where Mills was present to give remarks. As she chatted with us, she said, “I’m sorry to cut this short, but I’ve got a rental property in Farmington that has a problem in need of a fix.” Would you rather send this hardworking and grounded representative to Washington on our behalf, or one with really fast thumbs? Mainers know the answer.
