I am 18 and taking college classes at Central Maine Community College. I do not own a car because of the cost; instead, I commute to the CMCC campus twice a week via bus. It has come to my attention that Citylink bus drivers only stop if they see people waiting at a bus stop; otherwise, they drive right past — whether they are on schedule or early. I have missed the bus numerous times because it ran early and didn’t stop to wait until its appointed time.

There’s no convenience to taking the bus instead of driving if you have to get to the stop 10-15 minutes early just to ensure you don’t miss it! Buses should not leave a stop until after the time at which they are expected.

I firmly believe that a more dependable bus system would dramatically improve our community, and that the change proposed above is the first step. A strong public transport system supports a reliable working class — and that’s something we all benefit from.
