Sebastian Vidmar scored in the fifth round of a shootout Wednesday night, lifting the Maine Mariners to a 3-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers in an ECHL game in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The Mariners were 23 seconds away from winning in regulation before Wheeling’s Logan Pietilla forced overtime.
Antonio Venuto and Robert Cronin scored in regulation for Maine. Cronin’s power-play goal with 7:19 left gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead after Wheeling’s Connor Lockhart tied the game just 13 seconds into the third period.
Maine goalie Luke Cavallin finished with 32 saves.
