A Buckfield man is facing two counts of criminal use of explosives after state investigators found several items at his home on Allen School Road capable of being used to manufacture explosives.
Zachary Williams, 50, was arrested Monday on the felony charges after the Office of State Fire Marshal executed a search warrant at his house, according to a news release Tuesday.
Investigators further allege that Williams is responsible for an explosion Jan. 12 on Decoster Road in Sumner. It was in a snowbank in front of an acquaintance’s home, the release said.
Firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and found a crater in the snowbank near the house, Sumner fire Chief Doug Fournier said Tuesday.
Williams was arrested and taken to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris. He posted $500 cash bail Monday night and was released, according to a corrections officer at the jail.
State fire investigators were assisted by Maine State Police, federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Buckfield Fire Department, and Civil Support Team based in Waterville.
A conviction on each charge carries a sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Attempts to contact Williams were unsuccessful.
