Turner’s proposed $4 million budget for 2026-27 is $159,261 more than the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
The budget, which is about a 4% increase, doesn’t factor in the town’s share of education funds for Maine School Administrative District 52 or for Androscoggin County.
It will go before voters in an open meeting at 9:30 a.m. on April 11 in the cafeteria at Leavitt Area High School on Lower Street.
Election of town and school officers will be held from 1-7 p.m. on April 10 at the Town Office.
Cody Craig is running for a three-year term on the Select Board. Selectman Warren Hood is not seeking reelection.
Peter Ricker is seeking to a three-year term on the Maine School Administrative District 52 board.
Seeking three-year terms on the town Budget Committee are Daniel Ruttenberg and incumbents Megan Ricker and Susan Shaw. No one took out papers for the fourth open seat on the committee, Town Clerk Becky Allaire said.
The difference between the Select Board and the Budget Committee’s proposed budgets is $1,730, with the board’s amount slightly higher, Town Manager Kurt Schaub said Monday.
Among the proposed increases are $20,000 in the administration budget, $20,000 for the Fire Department and $40,000 for Rescue, which is mainly attributed to wages, workers compensation insurance and related expenses, Schaub said.
Another $75,000 was added to the paving and road construction budget to make it $675,000, he said.
The Budget Committee’s recommendation was $355,000 for capital spending, while the board’s amount was $10,000 less than that.
The town is setting aside $100,000 to buy a wheeler/dump truck for the Highway Department to replace a 2012 truck that is a single-axel, Schaub said. The cost for a wheeler/dump truck with plow equipment is about $300,000, he said.
The board and the budget panel are proposing to add the $100,000 this year to $95,233 already reserved and add another $100,000 to next year’s 2027-28 budget to enable the town to purchase the truck.
The Planning Board will hold a public hearing Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Turner Town Office on two proposed changes that will then go before voters at the town meeting.
The board proposes amending an ordinance related to licensing for marijuana growing facilities and is proposing a zoning map amendment.
Voters adopted a six-month moratorium in November 2025 to let the Planning Board revise licensing rules for marijuana cultivation and production facilities by adding a question to the application about law enforcement responses.
And the board is proposing a zoning designation change to a parcel of land off Route 4 that would allow the owner to divide the parcel up for his sons.
