It has been a banner year so far for winter activities in Maine. Early snow helped set a base and consistently cold temperatures allowed ski areas to make snow early in the season.

With several storms dumping natural snow, mountains and ski areas have been busy. People of all ages flocked to the outdoors as temperatures warmed up recently, but not too much, for this week’s school vacation. Lost Valley in Auburn was bustling Tuesday morning.

It was her first time snowboarding and she loved every minute of it. “She can’t wait to snowboard with her brother, who also took lessons here four years ago,” her mother said while watching from the bottom of the hill.
