George William Smiley
LEWISTON – Born to Alvin and Kathryn Smiley in Augusta, the fourth of six children, George and his siblings all started working at young ages after their fireman father passed away when George was 13.
George had a friendly demeanor about him and made friends wherever he went. He spent most of his career driving cement trucks for various companies and could point out foundations he’d poured all over Kennebec and Androscoggin Counties as you drove around the countryside.
He married the love of his life, Sonia N. (Hoyt) Smiley in 1961 and were wed when she passed in 2011.
He is survived by sons Daniel L. Smiley of Wolfeboro, N.H. and Carroll R. Smiley of Durham and both their wives and families including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a gratitude of thanks to the hard working staff at Genesis Marshwood in Lewiston for the care they provided during his stay there.
