On Friday, Feb. 6, Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary for President Donald Trump, gave a statement following Trump’s posting of a videoclip depicting President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as apes. Leavitt said to the press, “Stop the fake outrage and report on something that really matters to the American public.”
Really? The blatantly racist and hurtful clip did not elicit “fake outrage.” Does she (or her boss for that matter) really think that the approximately 33% of the American population who identify as Black or brown would agree with her that Trump’s racist post doesn’t “really matter”? Not surprisingly, it was offensive to the vast majority of Americans and even to some Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Collins, I might add.
Trump is too old and impaired to change. But Leavitt needs to go home to New Hampshire (sorry, New Hampshire) and examine her insensitivity.
