Roberta Lee Curtis Yeaton

EAST WILTON – Roberta Lee Curtis Yeaton, who was born in Lewiston on Oct. 14, 1940, passed away Feb. 18, 2026 while surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Allen S. Curtis and Priscilla Emery Curtis and spent many of her school years living with her grandparents, aunts and uncles in Maine.

Roberta “Bert” graduated from Wilton Academy in 1958. She married the love of her life, Howard Lewis Yeaton Jr. on March 12, 1960, when he was home on a break from the Air Force.

She then had the opportunity to travel with Lewis to Germany where their son, Steven Lewis was born and again to Michigan where their daughter, Deborah Lee was born. Roberta absolutely LOVED people, and she met friends in Germany as well as in Michigan with whom she continued to keep in touch with after returning to her home state of Maine. She and Lewis built their family home in East Wilton and continued to live there until her passing. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year.

Throughout her life, Roberta could always be found with her nose in a book – she was an avid reader, many times reading a whole book in a day! She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading a variety of monthly magazines. She was an intelligent woman and quick learner who could do most anything. In her younger adult years, she liked making clothes as well as knitting, crocheting and playing the piano. She had a few different jobs over the years, her favorite being a stay-at-home mother until her children were a little older. Her last job was working in the bookstore at the University of Maine at Farmington until her retirement.

In addition, Roberta liked to attend every sporting event for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was there to support them at all times. She was also a member of a bowling team for many years and enjoyed going out to eat and attending multiple plays with friends. Roberta and Lewis had a lot of friends with whom they hung out with many weekends going dancing, playing games, going out to eat and having neighborhood cookouts. She loved having all of her family together at the house for all of the holidays. She loved everyone and was always thinking of others while sending cards for many reasons. Roberta was loved by so many. Also, she liked hanging out, getting coffee, and shopping with her special friend and neighbor, Franka Bickford.

Roberta is survived by her husband Lewis, her son Steven, and her daughter Deborah (Randy) Knapp. She is also extremely fortunate to have three awesome grandchildren: Sara (Eric) Phillips, Stephanie (Kevin) Whelpley, and Brandon (Jessica) Knapp. She is also blessed with her great grandchildren: Rhylie Bubier, Camden and MiKenna Phillips and Trevor, Kailyn, Gracie and Raegan Whelpley. Her most recent great-grandson, Miles Knapp was born in Alabama in December 2025 and fortunately she did get to see multiple photos and meet him during a few Facetime connections. In addition, Roberta is survived by a special sister-in-law Anne Beisaw (Barry) Gotshall, cousins Dorinda Stevens, Dorita Woodcock and Ronnie

Curtis who visited often, her half-sister Patsy (Harvey) Howd, and half-brother Brad Trufant along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws Iona and Howard Yeaton Sr., her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Bonnie Yeaton, her great grandson Brandyn Whelpley, her half-brothers Allen and Ted and a very special Aunt Patricia Curtis along with many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

At Roberta’s request, there will not be a funeral, there will be a graveside ceremony at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton this summer.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in treatment room two of the emergency room at Franklin Memorial Hospital for being by Roberta’s side. A big thank you to Dr. Emily Young for everything she did to support the family.

Family and friends are encouraged to visit Roberta’s Book of Memories to leave words of comfort, share a story of photos at http://www.wilesrc.com who is honored to be caring for the family of Roberta L. Yeaton.
