Richard H. Douglas
LISBON FALLS – Richard H. Douglas, 82, of Lisbon Falls, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Feb. 28, 2026, at Central Maine Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born on Oct. 24, 1943, to Herman Douglas and Anna (Griffing) Douglas of Topsham, Maine, Rick was the oldest of three children.
Rick graduated from Brunswick High School in 1962. He attended Husson College in Bangor, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He briefly worked in the farming industry in Ohio post-graduation but grew home sick and returned home to Maine. Upon his return, he worked for Calderwood Bakery in Portland until its closure. In 1973, he began working for the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT), retiring after 30 years. Following his MDOT retirement, he worked at Wal-Mart in Brunswick, serving as a people greeter for more than 10 years.
In 1972, he married Eleanor (Bilodeau) Douglas who he met at the former Holiday Lanes in Lewiston. They welcomed two daughters, Deborah and Rebecca. He was also the proud grandfather of four grandsons.
Rick was an avid bowler throughout his life, participating in various leagues in both Brunswick and Lewiston, alongside his wife, Ellie. The two traveled throughout the United States, bowling in various national tournaments. He treasured his many accomplishments in bowling, having bowled multiple 300 games throughout his career. He served as President of the Brunswick Area Bowling Association (BABA) and was eventually inducted into both the BABA and Maine State Bowling Association Hall of Fame. One of his greatest passions in bowling was working with kids and other bowlers, helping them learn and improve on the lanes.
Rick was also an avid outdoorsman, dedicating much of his time hunting and fishing throughout the state. He loved telling his children and grandchildren all the stories about his accomplishments on the water and in the woods, chief among them being the first deer he shot in November of 1971.
Rick leaves behind his wife, Eleanor, of 53 years; his daughter, Rebecca (Douglas) Patenaude and her partner Josh Marriner; his grandchildren, Damon A. H. Douglas and his partner Sarah Hanson, Seth A. Patenaude, Owen T. Danse, and Lucas R. Patenaude; his brother, Kenneth L.
