Anthony “Tony” Albert Jr.
LEWISTON – Anthony “Tony” Albert Jr., passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on April 2, 2026, at the age of 92. As Tony’s illness did not improve, he expressed his desire to go home for his final days. His family made it possible and provided round-the-clock care to fulfill his wish.
He was born in Lewiston, on May 28, 1933, to Esther Bartlett and Anthony Albert Sr. He attended Lewiston schools graduating from Lewiston High School in 1952.
He entered the Army in 1952. During active duty he traveled to Italy, North Africa, and Germany. He was a member of the Maine National Guard for many years and later the Army Reserves. He fully retired after serving a total of 42 years with the rank of W4 Warrant Officer.
He married the love of his life, Doris Walton, on June 2, 1956. Through the years, he and Doris enjoyed traveling. The travel, at times, took them to casinos where they enjoyed attempting to “break even” and leave with the same money that they brought to spend. Tony and Doris were wonderful dancers and spent many Saturday nights dancing at various legions, parties, etc. They remained married for almost 65 years until her passing in May of 2021.
He worked many years at Brunswick Naval Air Station retiring in 1988. Over the years, he often worked more than one job to support his family. Even after retirement, he continued to work part time for Hall & Knight, Lee Auto and Bedard’s Pharmacy. Tony was a very hard worker and was always willing to lend a hand to others.
Tony loved people and making connections with everyone. He always had a story to share and he loved to tease. He enjoyed playing cards and taught his grandchildren to play poker and cribbage.
One of his favorite days of the year was the Walton Family Reunion that was held each summer. He always ensured all the kids had plenty of candy and he was the first person to hold any new babies to welcome them into the family. He was the patriarch of the Walton family even though he was one of the “outlaws”. Doris was one of nine children and Tony was the last surviving member of the 18 siblings and spouses. He loved being Uncle Tony to so many and always greeted everyone with a hug.
He leaves behind four children. Mary Ann (Mike) Morency, Sharon (Mark) Dube, James (Roni) Albert, and Scott (Lisa) Albert. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, Jenny (Elijah) Whitehead, Seth (Jill) Dube, Brent Clark (Deb), Brian Morency, Scott Albert, Deanna Morency, Amy Albert, Tessa Albert, Bailey Herrick (Ian), and Riley Brannigan (Liam); as well as great-grandchildren, Kai, Isaiah, and Zoe Whitehead, Wylder, Flyn, and Iris Dube, Ellianna Morency, Deacon Munsey, Haley House, and Clayton and Warren Herrick.
He is survived by his sister, Constance Abbott; and several nieces, nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews; as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Doris; son, John, daughter-in-law, Karen Maberry Albert; grandson, Adam Clark; and brother, David Albert as well as eight sisters-in-law and nine brothers-in-law.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to his caregivers from Helping Hands, especially Anita and Amy and to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and D’Youville Pavillion for the great care they provided throughout the years but especially the last several weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 18, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by military honors and a funeral service from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at The Fortin and Pinette Funeral Home located at 305 Alfred Plourde Pkwy in Lewiston.
A burial will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park in the spring.
