NEWTON, MA — Lasell University graduates from the Class of 2021 were acknowledged at Commencement ceremonies on May 15, 2021. Local graduates include:
Sarah Walton of Mechanic Falls: Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training
The undergraduate Class of 2021 was honored at a ceremony on Lasell’s Taylor Field on Saturday, May 15. Keynote speaker Dr. James E. Muller, an academic cardiologist, entrepreneur, and social activist, delivered the Commencement address at all three ceremonies. Muller, a longtime friend and neighbor of Lasell University, co-founded International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War, which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. Muller was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University.
Reflecting on the weekend’s activities, Lasell President Michael B. Alexander welcome the opportunity to celebrate the graduates’ accomplishments, both academically and in traversing the difficulties of the pandemic.
“Despite many challenges, Lasell students, faculty, and staff rose to the occasion and continued to teach, work, and learn in-person and remotely,” he said. “Ending the academic year by marking the accomplishments of our graduates was, for many of us, the highlight of the year.”

Ridgewater
WILLMAR, MN — Ridgewater College is pleased to announce Kenneth Rand of Norway has graduated. Virtual ceremonies took place in May, 2021.
Students graduating with a diploma or degree will graduate with Honors if they have a GPA of 3.5 to 3.74, with High Honors if they have a GPA of 3.75 to 3.99, and Highest Honors if they have a GPA of 4.0.

UVM
BURLINGTON, VT — Determined to maintain the spirit of joy and optimism that is the hallmark of UVM’s commencement ceremony, but doing so in a safe manner, University of Vermont President Suresh Garimella conferred degrees on graduates at multiple, smaller school and college ceremonies. “Our emphasis will be on celebrating our students. We are very proud of each and every one of them and salute their accomplishment,” Garimella said prior to the ceremonies, which marked the end of a highly successful year of in-person education on the UVM campus. An estimated 3,347 graduates, including 2,685 bachelors, 435 masters, 117 doctoral and 110 medical, earned degrees during the university’s 220th commencement.
