BETHEL — The Stoned Moose, soon to be Bethel’s first recreational marijuana store, got planning board approval last week by a vote of 4-1 with one board member recused.
Members Dwayne Bennett, Jim Bennett, Carolyn Dunn and Meryl Kelly were in favor, with Laurie Winsor opposed and Cherie Thurston recused, because she recently sold property belonging to Mike and Jodi Everett, who will be operating The Stoned Moose.
Mike and Jodi, who already run Moosehead Farms, a medical marijuana store right off Route 2 on the Sunday River Road, are hoping to have the new store open by mid-August.
The Stoned Moose will be on the same property as Moosehead Farms, but in a different building, since state states that recreational and medical marijuana cannot be dispensed from the same building.
Work on the building started this week with the pouring of the foundation. The building will be 320 square feet.
Everett expects to get approved for a retail license at this week’s select board meeting.
The store will have the same address as Moosehead Farms, which is 22 Sunday River Road, Bethel.
