SOUTH PARIS – Harold E. Carver Sr., “Babe”, born April 30, 1927 died July 1, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born to the late Harry and Clyda (Barry) Carver of Mexico, Maine, one of seven children. Babe attended the Mexico school system until enlisting in the U.S. Navy for World War II. He married Edda Hayden on March 22, 1945 who predeceased him on December 30, 2003. They moved to Bethel in 1955 where they raised their four children. Babe was a dairy farmer from 1945 until 1967 then went to work with Harold Rolfe as a carpenter, eventually starting his own carpentry business. He joined the Bethel volunteer fire department in 1957 serving as fire chief from 1967-1975. He served as a trustee of the Bethel Water District, was a member of the Bethel Masonic lodge, and the Cora Clown Shriners. As a Shriner, he participated in many parades and functions as Mickey Mouse alongside his good friend Tommy Kennagh (as Donald Duck). Upon retirement Babe and Edda spent winters at their beach house in St. Augustine Florida and summers at their camp at Richardson Lake. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed. He was pre-deceased by his parents: Harry and Clyda Carver, his wife Edda (Hayden) Carver, son in law Robert Gilbert and 5 siblings. He is survived by his children; Harold Carver Jr. (Bud) and his wife Judith, Lloyd Carver and his wife Melanie, Linda Gilbert, and Barry Carver and his wife Claire. He also leaves behind his sister Barbara Naillis, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In keeping with Harold’s wishes, a service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Harold’s memory to a charity of personal choice. The family wishes to extend its appreciation to the staff of the Memory Care Unit at Market Square for their outstanding job.
