NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library Children’s Room will celebrate National Library Week by hosting a Make a Book Workshop.
Children’s Coordinator Anna Gordon will hold a class from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, teaching children that books come in all shapes and sizes. Preregistration is required since space is limited. Parents should call the library at 743-5309, ext. 4, to sign up.
Gordon said, “There are hundreds of different ways to make a book; the right one just depends on the story you want to tell.”
The workshop will build on the ideas and concepts that were explored during the March 10 and 24 Eco Kids program and the February Learn to Sew program.
The participants will make books using recycled buttons and cereal boxes to help promote environmental awareness and sewing the pieces together using string.
The Make a Book program ties into the National Library Week initiative started by the American Library Association. The 2011 National Library Week theme is “Visit your library today and create your own story.”
During the program children will be invited to explore different types of stories and what story might be most suited to their homemade book. For more information about the program or to register, call 743-5309, ext. 4, or stop by the library.
