ROCKPORT — Beryle Stone, 97, passed away at Pen Bay Medical Center March 19.
She was born in Leeds, Aug. 13, 1913, a daughter of the late Carl and Etta (Phillips) Grover. Beryle and her husband, Irving lived in Lisbon Falls on High Street for more than 50 years. After Irving passed away in 1993, she moved to the Rockland area to be closer to her family, where she resided at the Methodist Conference Home, until moving to Quarry Hill in Camden in November 2008, where she lived until her death.
Beryle worked for many years in a shoe factory in Lewiston. Beryle and her husband, Irving were both involved in community service when they lived in Lisbon Falls enjoying social events with their friends and neighbors.
Beryle and Irving built and owned a camp at Sabattus Pond, where they enjoyed many a moment with their family and friends. Beryle was a member of Methodist Church and a life member of the Pioneer Chapter 11 Order of the Eastern Star in Lisbon Falls. After moving to Rockland, she became a member of the Aldersgate Methodist Church.
Beryle never graduated from high school as a young person and always considered it an important part of life. So at the age of 57, she obtained her GED, which was one of her many personal accomplishments in her life of which she was so proud.
Beryle enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and needle work and was always willing to teach anyone who was interested in learning these crafts. She made many donations of her creations to various churches and organizations. In her spare time, she liked to write poetry and draw pictures of animals and people of which you could find on most any scrap of paper.
She is survived by her son, Willis Stone and his companion, Barbara King, of Appleton; grandsons, Stephan Stone and his companion, Tammie Conant, of Appleton, Brent Stone and wife, Denise, of Oklahoma, and David Stone and wife, Angela, of Appleton; five great-grandsons, Jeremy Stone, Joshua Stone, Douglas Stone, Andrew Stone and Daniel Stone; four great-great-granddaughters, Taylor Stone, Karagen Stone, Casandra Stone and Darci Stone; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
