SALEM — Colonial Daughters Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Farmington, presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to William M. London, son of Danielle and Barry London of Kingfield, at a Mt. Abram Regional High School assembly.
Presenting the award was Good Citizen Committee Chairwoman Deborah J. Judkins of Upton and Chapter Treasurer Jeanette Stevens of Farmington. London received a Good Citizen pin and a certificate signed by National Society President General Mary Ann T. Wright and Maine Society DAR Regent Virginia S. Spiller.
Colonial Daughters Chapter sponsors seven area schools to recognize excellence in seniors. Each school’s faculty nominates several candidates. The person chosen must have demonstrated qualities as defined by the National Society.
London is a hardworking self-starter who doesn’t balk at a good challenge, faculty said. He is a member of the soccer and baseball teams and has been on the honor roll all four years. London received the Bruce Howard Athletic Character Award, Mountain Valley Conference Scholar Athlete Award and the Mountain Valley Conference Honorable Mention All-Star Team Award.
In addition to the pre-college curriculum, he has earned his Emergency Medical Technician license through night classes and he has also taken firefighting training. He works part time at Sugarloaf USA as a member of the ski patrol. For years in the summer time he has managed his own lawn care business.
London wants a career that integrates his love of wilderness, his desire to help others and his need to exercise his mind. He plans to attend a liberal arts college.
