On March 26 at the Lewiston Maineiacs game, I spoke with two separate individuals. Both gentlemen shared stories regarding their experiences in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
One was a former player back in the late 1960s and early ’70s from the Manchester Blackhawks.
The other is a parent of a young Lewiston Maineiacs player.
The former Blackhawk said he always enjoyed coming to L-A. He enjoyed every aspect of his visit (rink, fans, hospitality, entertainment, etc.). He stated, “I loved coming here.”
The father of the young player said he and his wife “love this area” — everyone was so friendly; businesses were so hospitable.
I sometimes think that other people underestimate this community. We are good, honest, hardworking people who appreciate, and honor, our different heritages.
On April 1, I’d like to see this All-America community support the Lewiston Maineiacs hockey team. Forget, for one night, any individual grudges (ownership, prices, parking, rumors, etc.) and support the young men whom L-A had adopted.
I propose that April 1 is Lewiston Maineiacs Day. Let’s give these young men a special night to remember (a full house). Hopefully, someday they’ll say, “I love L-A.”
