FARMINGTON — A public screening of the documentary film “Race to Nowhere” takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, in Lincoln Auditorium in the Roberts Learning Center at the University of Maine.

UMF is joining schools and theaters around the country as it hosts a public screening of the hard-hitting documentary that takes a firsthand look at what is happening in today’s high-pressure educational culture.

Created by Vicki Abeles, a concerned mother turned filmmaker, the documentary is a call to action for families, educators and policymakers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing citizens.

Abeles, according to the film’s website, “aims her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded our schools and our children’s lives creating unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out youth.”

Tickets for the UMF screening may be purchased online at http://rtnuofmaineatfarmington.eventbrite.com/. Seating is limited. Tickets for any remaining seating may be purchased at the door the night of the screening.

The event is sponsored by the UMF Teaching and Learning Collaborative.

A donation will be made by Reel Link Films to the UMF Scholarship Fund based upon ticket sales.
