Leslie L. Fuller Jr.
TEXAS – Mr. Leslie L. Fuller Jr., 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Sept. 28, 2021, in Carrollton, Texas. He was formerly of Mexico, Maine, Langhorne, Pa., and Azle, Texas, for 21 winters. He was residing in Mesquite, Texas.Born in Auburn, on Feb. 19, 1926, he was a son of Leslie and Isabelle (Russ) Fuller Sr., Leslie grew up in Upton, Maine, and attended Gould Academy in Bethel. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, enlisting two days before his 18th birthday, in 1944. He was a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Sapelo and the USS Harry Taylor. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal. He was part of the crew that towed the captured German submarine, U-505, from Bermuda to New York City in 1945.Following the war, Leslie worked for the Oxford Paper Company and Boise Cascade in Rumford as a lab technician, scaler and later in the wood procurement department. He retired in 1985 after 39 years.Leslie was a member of the VFW Post 6393 in Yardley, Pa., the Roll-Call Veterans Organization in Fort Worth, Texas, and the Mexico First Baptist Church. He was a longtime volunteer with the Mexico Historical Society and was named Mexico Citizen of the Year in 2003. He also attended Grace Point Church in Newtown, Pa., and The Crossing Baptist Church of Mesquite, Texas. He was married to the love of his life, Marguerite Kidder in Mexico, on Nov. 29, 1947, and they celebrated 65 years together. Marguerite passed away on June 28, 2013. Leslie enjoyed hunting and fishing and had fond memories of many fishing trips to Rapid River. He especially cherished his time at his beloved cottage on Webb Lake, where he could be found filling in potholes, fishing, riding his bike, climbing mountains, picking berries or just puttering around with his grandchildren, neighbors and friends. He never met anyone that he couldn’t strike up a conversation with and was always interested in others and what was happening in their lives. He loved his vegetable garden and sharing his bounty with anyone who would take it. And he loved to eat – chocolate, potatoes and a “nice juicy” steak made him happy. He is remembered for his kindness, good stories, love of God’s Word, and jigsaw puzzles. He had a true servant’s heart, and was always looking for how he could help someone else, even up to his last days. He was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Young (Rusty) of Lady Lake, FL and Lisa Yoder (Tim) of Mesquite, Texas, sons, Andrew (Cathy) of Westport Island, Bruce (Mary Ann) of Lake Dallas, Texas, and Kirk (Karen) of Springtown, Texas, his sister-in-law, Joan Fuller Robichaud of Rumford, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Frances (Fuller) Gilmore of Cincinnati, Ohio, and his brother, Alan Fuller of Dixfield.
